On April 16th, western Massachusetts-based designer, Dre Rawlings, will unveil her TINYcrush Society Spring 2011 capsule collection at an eclectic, multi-media fashion event. The runway fashion show/performance and party will take place in a styled-up, disused hardware store in the heart of a Massachusetts mill town on the rebound.
Her spring, 2011 collection, titled Lovesick Mozart + the Supreme Monster, features several new boldly pattered designs for the spring as well as two limited-edition collaborations.
The first collaboration, with noted artist Tom Friedman is a limited edition silkscreened tee shirt. Friedman's "Monster Drawing" (1991), as well as the pencil drawing "I Am the Supreme One" (2005), are represented on the tee.
Friedman is an internationally known artist, with work in various museum collections, such as Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMoMA), Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, Hong Kong Museum of Contemporary Art. He lives and works in Leverett, Massachusetts.
"When I think about making art, for me it's a dialogue... people help me find my edges, to grow women's jackets , and I want to do that for them, too. Sometimes I want...even to make them uncomfortable. I want to be uncomfortable, too. We're just growing in a dialogue, profoundly interacting with the world," said Friedman.
TINYcrush Society has also commissioned textile designer and fellow Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) alum Elyse Allen (http://www.elyseallentextiles.com/) to design a custom run of cashmere and Swarovski crystal 'glovelettes' to accessorize the collection.
The Friedman tee will be available for sale online on Monday, April 18th at http://www.TINYcrush.com.
TINYcrush Society's capsule collections are contemporary, playful, and always carefully tailored to be accessible and flattering to a range of body types. TINYcrush's clothing is crafted from environmentally-friendly Oeko-tex-certified fabrics from Europe - super-soft cashmere blends, nubby French terry and slinky viscose. Clean, sustainable good and production practices are vital to creating style.
Dre Rawlings graduated from the RISD in 1991 with a BFA in Glass. After college she ran her own flower business, designing for weddings, parties, and cultural events in eastern Connecticut. After settling down in Massachusetts she founded TINYcrush Society, a women's clothing line for which she creates two playful and contemporary capsule collections each year.
